Trade Republic is a Berlin-based neo-broker that was founded in 2015. Up until this point, you have only been able to buy and sell shares and ETFs (exchange traded funds). As a result of the global trend, more neo-brokers are moving into the crypto industry and Trade republic won’t be left behind.
Trade Republic is planning an aggressive expansion into the crypto markets by providing Trade Republic Bitcoin on the site. They won’t just be offering Bitcoin though as traders will soon enough be able to get their hands on some Trade Republic Ethereum and Trade Republic Bitcoin Cash as well. They are even throwing some Litecoin in for good measure as well. Users will have a decent selection of the biggest cryptos available on the Trade Republic platform in the coming months.
In a recent press release, Germany’s biggest neo-broker claimed that they would offer commission-free crypto trading with controlled spreads and a flat fee of €1 to cover third-party execution. The rollout of crypto trading on the platform can be expected in the coming days, as German traders will be the first to be able to try it out.
Trade Republic don’t want to leave new traders high and dry on their platform and as such are making “education and knowledge the top priorities” according to CEO Christian Hecker. Crypto markets are infamously volatile which is why the educational features on the platform will “educate users on volatility and market development in the app and offer further information material to better understand the crypto market.” There seems to be a clear drive from Trade Republic to not only offer crypto trading capabilities but to give their traders a leg up as well.
Widespread expansions into crypto trading
Trade Republic’s move into wider crypto trading markets doesn’t come as much of a surprise but rather forms but of a wider trend for European neo-brokers in general. The past few months in the industry have seen a number of neo-brokers add crypto trading capabilities to their platforms.
It has been well documented that Freetrade and Plum (both investing apps) have aggressively expanded into the crypto markets on their platforms. In fact, entire teams were brought in to fast track the process to get the crypto trading features onto the site as quickly as possible. In keeping with the trend, Trade Republic had hired Bryce Ferguson, former senior manager at Coinbase, to help them with their entry into crypto trading. However, Trade Republic remained coy on their plans for crypto expansion.
Well, there is no hiding their intentions anymore as they seem to be on the precipice of releasing crypto trading on the platform within the coming days.
